Amid the sexual harassment allegations against Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi involving an ex-worker at his workplace, the Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Arun Jaitley, has written a weblog wherein he has voiced out his opinion on the Indian Judicial system and especially the “head of the judicial system.
Arun Jaitley has rubbished the allegations, pointing out that Chief Justice Gogoi is known for his sturdy values and ethics. These unverified allegations are not simply made with the aid of a disgruntled person. Still, they are supported with the aid of ‘institutional destabilizers’ who need to instill faith in the judiciary among the country’s residents.
“The Chief Justice of India is the primary among the equals within the Supreme Court. He is at the top of the judicial establishment. He is both the ‘Master of the Roster’ and the ‘Head of the Collegium,’ which makes binding recommendations for judges’ appointment. His integrity, ethics,
Scholarship and fairness reflect the image of India’s judiciary. He lives by example. For each of the Chief Justice and the judicial establishments, credibility and recognition are essential. Once the ‘Iqbal’ of the judiciary is destroyed, the group itself will collapse,” Arun Jaitley wrote in his weblog.
In light of the MeToo movement, this weblog supporting the Chief Justice is a step backward for women coming out in the open to report their work-related harassment complaints. The lady who had filed the grievance was terminated arbitrarily after she no longer acceded to the sexual advances of the Chief Justice. In her complaint, she has said that even her family members were stressed instead of the complete incident.
